O2 will quickly start to LTE marketing

That said, the boss of Telefonica O2 Germany, René Schuster, on Tuesday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. "Therefore, soon to begin the commercial rollout in the big cities."

Telefónica O2 have this in mind, has written to the Federal Network Agency in order to offer the service, "LTE 800» in the cities. The regulatory checks that are initially the "white spots" on the land connected to the broadband network, not commence before the LTE offerings in the cities. This was a political requirement for the award of the LTE licensing by the legislature.

The default "Long Term Evolution" (LTE) promises high data transfer speeds up to 300 megabits per second in theory. In practice, the data rates however, will be significantly lower. The auctions for the necessary spectrum licenses in May 2010 cost the German network operators a total of 4.4 billion euros.

Together with the two major mobile providers in Germany, German Telekom and Vodafone wants to promote the use of the O2 mobile payment system "mpass," especially when shopping on the mobile Internet. The system can be used by all the customers of the provider, confirm that a purchase using their mobile phone and a PIN. The purchase amount is then driven over the phone bill. Schuster pointed to market studies, is that by the year 2014 already processed a payment volume of over seven billion euros over the phone or smart phone in Germany. "I can imagine the day when we pay no plastic types for longer required."

The company Telefónica O2 Germany will occur from April to just under the name of the Spanish parent company and renamed Telefónica in Germany. The products will still offered under the existing brand name.
