One thing that will also be noticed is that many of the Church's worst critics have themselves been beneficiaries of the Church's largesse. Pat Evangelista, for instance, teaches in a Catholic college and used to co-host a TV show with Bo Sanchez. Danton Remoto is, of course, a prof in Ateneo. The Belmontes of the Philippine Star enjoyed the patronage of the Church in the '80's and '90's thanks to the pro-Church stance of the late Betty Go-Belmonte. The late Teddy Benigno, who was one of the first journalists to openly wage war against the Church on contraception, was a CMMA awardee and used to be a close friend of Cardinal Sin -- until the Cardinal denied a story that Teddy B. published. Teddy B then got bitter, ranted and raved against the Church, prophesied blood and gore in the streets of Manila. As he was dying, he hurriedly made peace with God and asked for the last rites, as I am sure a lot of the Church's current critics will try to do on their own deathbeds.
