India beat Australia by seven wickets to register a historic clean sweep of the two-Test series 2-0 on the fifth and final day here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Set to score 207, the home team romped home with seven wickets to spare thanks to Cheteshwar Pujara’s 72 and Sachin Tendulkar who remained not out whith a half century.

Both Vijay and Pujara scored at a brisk pace. Needing 207 of a minimum of 77 overs for a victory, India lost opener Sehwag to a bad shot selection but Vijay and Pujara, who was promoted at number three, ensured that no more damage is done to the home side.



Vijay was solid and ran for singles to give more strike to his partner Pujara who showed his aggressive intent early, particularly against spinner Nathan Hauritz.

Pujara was stroking well except an upish shot and was lucky as the ball fell short of Australian captain Ricky Ponting at short midwicket.


Bangalore: Debutant Cheteshwar Pujara proved an unlikely hero as India thrashed Australia by seven wickets in the second and final Test on Wednesday to sweep the series 2-0. Pujara hit a fluent 72 as the hosts, set 207 runs to win on a wearing wicket, cruised home soon after tea on the fifth and final day at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.

Veteran Sachin Tendulkar, who hit a double-century in the first innings, remained unbeaten on 53 as India enhanced their reputation as the world's number one Test side.
