Subject: the 10 commandments that I received from an SDA

Dear father Abe,

Good day!

Below is the table I got from an SDA member regarding to their claim that we catholic is the one changed the law hence we are the fourth beast in the book of Daniel as they've said. And they quote at Daniel 7:25.

Bible Ten Commandments
1st

am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2nd

xodus 20:4-6 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my Commandments.

3rd

hou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God In vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

4th

emember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that iswithin your gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

5th

onour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

6th

hou shalt not kill.

7th

hou shalt not commit adultery.

8th

hou shalt not steal.

9th

hou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

10th

hou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Catholic Ten Commandments
1st

am the LORD thy God. Thou shalt have no strange gods before Me.

eleted. See also idolatry in the Catholic Church

(There is idolatry in the Papal system so the second Commandment has been deleted or sometimes it has been absorbed into the first. All remaining Commandments are therefore shifted along one count.)

2nd

hou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain.

3rd

emember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

(The Sabbath is the fourth Commandment by normal count. The day to be kept is no longer mentioned since they changed the Sabbath to Sunday.)

(Note that God had more to say about the fourth Commandment than all others and with good reason. It is very important.)

4th

onour thy father and thy mother.

5th

hou shalt not kill.

6th

hou shalt not commit adultery.

7th

hou shalt not steal.

8th

hou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

9th

hou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife.

(The Tenth Commandment is split into two to get back to Ten Commandments.)

10th

hou shalt not covet thy neighbour's goods.

Thank you so much once again father for always considering and give time in reading my messages.

Dear Bro. JV, First and foremost, the SDA are being deceptive here. It is because they presented the Ten Commandments as presented in the Bible while they presented not the Ten Commandments from our Catholic Bible for Exodus 20:4-6 instead, they chose the one we are using for Catechetical purpose which is a simplified version for simple people to memorize. Actually, the Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC] which officially contains our OFFICIAL CATHOLIC TEACHING, gives 3 sets of TEN COMMANDMENTS. This can be found in CCC "Ten Commandments between article no. 2051 and article no. 2052. Here is the list of that 3 Ten Commandments

Catechism of the Catholic Church - The Church, Mother and Teacher

The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20 2-17 Deuteronomy 5:6-21 A Traditional Catechetical Formula
I am the LORD your God,
who brought you out
of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
I am the LORD your God,
who brought you out
of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
1. I am the LORD your God:
you shall not have
strange Gods before me.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a graven image,
or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them or serve them;
for I the LORD your God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children to the third and the fourth
generation of those who hate me,
but showing steadfast love to thousands of those
who love me and keep my commandments.
You shall have no other gods before me
. . .

You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain;
for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
who takes his name in vain.
You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain
. . .
2. You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days you shall labor, and do all your work;
but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God;
in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son,
or your daughter, your manservant,
or your maidservant or your cattle,
or the sojourner who is within your gates;
for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, a
nd rested the seventh day;
therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
Observe the sabbath day,
to keep it holy
. . .
3. Remember to keep holy the LORD'S Day.
Honor your father and your mother,
that your days may be long in the land
which the LORD your God gives you.
Honor your father and your mother
. . .
4. Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not kill. You shall not kill. 5. You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery. Neither shall you commit adultery. 6. You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal. Neither shall you steal. 7. You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness
against your neighbor.
Neither shall you bear false witness
against your neighbor.
8. You shall not bear false witness
against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor's house;
you shall not covet your neighbor's wife,
or his manservant, or his maidservant,
or his ox, or his ass,
or anything that is your neighbor's.
Neither shall you covet
your neighbor's wife . . .

You shall not desire . . .
anything that is your neighbor's.

9. You shall not covet
your neighbor's wife.

10. You shall not covet
your neighbor's goods.

As you can see with your own eyes, Bro. Juvenal. The lies and deceits of the SDA are very obvious. They only presented our 3rd list of Ten Commandment, only the Simplified Version, which is usually given to children but not the first two lists which are the Biblical version given to Moses in the Book of Exodus and Deuteronomy. This is outrageous. They are attacking us by foul means. They are withholding information to the honest people like you by giving HALF-TRUTHS.

You will see that Brother when I give you later a personal copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You will see for yourself. But for the meantime where can you see that in the web? Here:

http://www.vatican.va/archive/catechism/p3s1c3a3.htm#ten

So dear Brother, if the SDA are honest enough to show the complete lists of our Ten Commandments they cannot accuse us of deleting or changing or removing something from the Ten Commandments. Our Catholic Bibles and our Catechism have preserved the Biblical version of the Ten Commandments as they are handed on to us in Scriptures. Concerning the numbering of the Ten Commandments. They are claiming brod that our numbering is wrong and theirs is right. Excuse me. As you can obviously see in their diagram below the SDA simply and ignorantly combined Exodus 20:4-6

2nd

Exodus 20:4-6 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my Commandments.

While the Catholic's Catechetical Formula concise Exodus 20:2-6 as First Commandment:

The Ten Commandments
Exodus 20 2-17 Deuteronomy 5:6-21 A Traditional Catechetical Formula
I am the LORD your God,
who brought you out
of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
I am the LORD your God,
who brought you out
of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage.
1. I am the LORD your God:
you shall not have
strange Gods before me.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a graven image,
or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them or serve them;
for I the LORD your God am a jealous God,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children to the third and the fourth
generation of those who hate me,
but showing steadfast love to thousands of those
who love me and keep my commandments.
You shall have no other gods before me
. . .

You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain;
for the LORD will not hold him guiltless
who takes his name in vain.
You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain
. . .
2. You shall not take
the name of the LORD your God in vain.

The SDA on the other hand, did the same for Exodus 20:4-6.

The question then Brother is which version is CORRECT. They made their numbering and we made our numbering. They chose to compact Ex 20:4-6 to form Commandment 2 and we chose to compact Ex 20:2-6 for Commandment 1. Which of the two sides has the Authority to decide which numbering is correct and the real one? THE CATHOLIC CHURCH of course!

Really? Why? By what authority? By the Authority that Jesus gave to St. Peter.

Don't you know that the Catholic Church is the one that put the Chapters numbering in the Bible? Yes, we did. It was done in 1226 by Stephen Langton, a priest and professor in University of Paris which later became an Archbishop of Canterbury in England way. He, he, he... The SDA has nothing to do with it.

Don't you know that the Catholic Church is the one that put Verses within the Chapters of the Bible? Yes, we did. In 1551, the famous Catholic professor at Sorbonne University, Robert Estienne, inserted the number of verses in the Chapters. But before him in 1528 verses within Chapters of the Old Testament in the Latin Bible were made by the Dominican Friar Santes Pagnini. He, he, he... The SDA has nothing to do with the numbering of the Bible.

IF THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO IN THE NUMBERING OF THE BIBLE THEY ALSO HAVE NOTHING TO DO IN THE NUMBERING OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

I hope this will settle the score with the SDA on Ten Commandments. About Daniel 7:25 we will response to that soon.

God bless you.
